COVID 19 AND FLU SHOTS

The Federal Department of Health has advised that getting the flu and COVID-19 at the same time can make you very ill. We are therefore encouraging all our patients (barring those with respiratory symptoms- see below) to come to the Practice for a flu shot.

PATIENT SAFETY

To ensure the safety of our patients, doctors and staff, we will continue with all our usual COVID 19 precautions when giving patients flu shots.  In particular, we will ensure that patients with serious respiratory symptoms are not seen at the Practice.

APPOINTMENTS

If you want an appointment for a flu shot you must ring us, on 6247 5742. You cannot make an appointment on-line.

IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT PATIENTS DO NOT ATTEND THE PRACTICE WITHOUT A PRIOR TELEPHONE DISCUSSION WITH OUR STAFF OR DOCTORS.

Patients with respiratory symptoms

When you ring for an appointment, you will be asked a series of questions centering on respiratory symptoms indicative of corona virus infection. These symptoms are: shortness of breath, cough, sore throat or fever.

If you have respiratory symptoms, you will be offered a telehealth consultation with one of our doctors. Depending on the outcome of that discussion you will be given an appointment for a flu shot at the Practice.

If you develop respiratory symptoms after you have made your appointment, you MUST ring us for further assessment on the MORNING OF YOUR consultation.

ADMINISTRATION OF THE FLU SHOT

Patients on arrival at the Practice will wait briefly in reception and will be given a consent form, with their details already filled in, for signature.  The patient will then be shown to a room where a doctor and nurse will administer the vaccination.  The patient then waits for 15 minutes before departing.

Doctors, nurses and staff all wear masks and gloves and/or make regular use of hand sanitisers.  Rooms are cleaned after each patient, as are all pens clipboards etc.
